Autumn Trip to Jindabyne

Thredbo highstreet.

With Winter closing in we headed to the “Australian Alps” (yeah right!) for a pre ski-season visit. This trip also gave us a chance to give the caravan a "shake down"......other owners of these Aus made vans told me to pack a screwdriver, wood glue and sense of humour! Suffice to say that nothing broke, or if it did, I either haven’t found it yet or its lying on the road somewhere.

I hasten to add that the stigma associated with caravans in the UK (Jeremy Clarkson's hatred, traffic chaos, beige cardigans with elbow pads etc etc) doesn’t really exist here as the roads are relatively empty and the speed limit applies to all vehicle / vans / trucks etc….. although I have to say that beige is a very practical colour for all seasons.

Thredbo was very cool for this time of the year (7c) and there was a fair amount of snow from a very early dump 2 weeks ago. The average Aussie never sees snow, so many just take the chairlift up to see it for the first time, our girls almost choked on their sandwiches as a twenty year old girl leapt into the snow in front of us and made an Angel for the first time.

Overall, staying in the van was great. The kids loved it and so didn’t want to come home. Having the luxury and convenience of home, with a triple bunk (dens) was just fantastic. I can see that the cardigan is going to get a lot of use from now on.
